Mount Merrill Handicap Accessible Playground
A playground built in honor of George Merrill Davis III, who died in 2012 after a car crash. To everyone, he was known as Merrill, a man who worked the counter at the family business, Stone Brothers & Byrd Inc. The playground is different from others because of how it was designed. It’s handicap accessible. Designers worked really hard to make sure anyone in a wheelchair could come up. … “We wanted something everybody would have access to”.
As Lee Ann Tilley, president of the Durham Central Park Board of Directors said, “It’s just going to be a children’s magnet.” Merrill’s mother, Tamela Davis said “It’s a living tribute to my son.” Merrill loved little children.“I think he is smiling, and loving that this park is going to bring so much joy to children”.
